Chelsea ultimately had a successful campaign, winning some silverware and also earning a Champions League place for next season. The jury remains out on head coach Enzo Maresca and his tactics, but he has a deep squad with more than enough talent in it and added to that with early off season signings of Liam Delap, Dario Essugo and Mamadou Sarr all of whom have made the trip. They will be looking to build on those winning ways and their US owners will want to put on a good show in their homeland. Two of whom own three Los Angeles sports teams, so doubtless today will have special importance for them against a fourth. 

 

LAFC are , of course, a team we know well as they compete in one of our leagues and they have been an elite Western Conference side since coming into the league as a new expansion team in 2018. They won the Conference last year for the third time and are currently 5th, but with two games in hand on most. However, they are obviously way behind Chelsea in terms of ability and none of the LA squad would even be considered for the Blues, although several would have done so in the past and one did, in Olivier Giroud, for whom I suspect this is a big day. LA started this season slowly, but are building up a head of steam and are unbeaten in 10, scoring 2+ goals in each, albeit in extra time in one of those. I am hopeful that Cheslea will come to entertain with BlueCo wanting to impress on "home" soil and I will suggest......
