Full round of games in the MLS today .....

Very strong bets on three games today.
All 30 MLS teams are in action today. It has been a long two month break for most, although the ten teams in blue type, did play on Thursday/Friday and that will give them a match fitness edge.
One of those games was a shocker! Sounders losing 5-1 at home to the Timbers, their biggest rival and supporters are still reeling several days later. It was a sorry display from what I have often described in the past as the best run team in MLS and whilst that remains true, the performance was actually disgraceful, flat and devoid of competitive spirit and they were in damage limitation mode from just after the hour mark. They had never before conceded five goals at home and only given up four twice in their history, the most recent 13 years ago, yet they did so against Portland of all teams and without reply in an hour of football. Regardless of what team they put out this evening and they do have injuries, a list which appears to have increased rather than lessened over the two month break, we can surely expect a reaction and if nothing else a more committed performance, but an easy pass from me.
Philadelphia Union- NYRB. The hosts have conceded 18 goals in their last 7 starts. 12 months ago Philly were top of the Eastern Conference through 15 rounds and ended up winning the Supporters Shield ( best regular season record), but they are currently bottom and have conceded an additional 13 goals, whilst scoring 12 fewer. They are doubtless better than that and XGD suggests by more than one full goal per game (1.13), but until we see that turn into results, they can be opposed at big odds. Red Bulls took 10 points from four starts going into the break and also won their first two starts of this season (only EC side to do so) which indicates they can hit the ground running after a lengthy break.
Having said that, the Union could go on a roll once they turn things around as they surely will and we can keep an eye on them in the coming weeks.
Another game I am going to try and watch, albeit not bet, is New England-Toronto. as xGD suggests that Revolution should be 0.7 goals worse and TFC 0.47 goals better than actual numbers. NER had a +3 goal difference in the first half of last season, which tumbled to -10 in the second half and looking at those expected numbers, a similar fall off is far from impossible. Remember, as always, it is not all about today!
