I came up with a formula to extend that table to 46 games, adding, for example, the same number of points that Coventry had collected from their last 17 games to their remaining 17, for Ipswich that was 18 games and so on.
I then made adjustments for two further criteria, firstly xP giving + 3 points for top 4, down to -3 for bottom 3 ( I spared Sheffield Wednesday the embarrassment!), then, + 2 for teams I like, -2 for those I don't 0 for those I did not feel strongly either way.
Stand outs on xP BTW, were Birmingham 4th, Southampton 5th, WBA 6th, Sheffield United 7th, Hull City 21st.
This ended up .....
Coventry 94 pts
Ipswich 93
Middlesbrough 91
Hull 80
Watford 78
Wrexham 76
Millwall 76
Derby 71
Birmingham 68
Sheffield United 68
Southampton 66
Bristol City 64
PNE 64
QPR 63
Stoke City 61
Norwich City 56
Swansea City 54
Leicester City 54
WBA 51
Portsmouth 49
Blackburn Rovers 49
Charlton 44
Oxford 43
Wrexham have served us well in 2026 landing 3 out of 3 bets, all on the road and around those games, played better than results suggested in their other starts this (new) year, see notes on last weekend's game at QPR at the foot of this email, which they won 3-2.
Documents at Companies House have confirmed the North Wales club have received £47.83m via a new share issue.
The figures are from a deal struck last month with American finance group Apollo Sports Capital (ASC) that signalled new investment.
ASC – who are also majority shareholders in Spanish giants Atletico Madrid – have taken a minority shareholding in the Red Dragons believed to be just shy of 10%."

This values the club at circa £500m which seems insane and is 20% higher than Brentford, who are already planning for a 6th season in the EPL (with a stadium paid for and only limited and "soft" debt), when they sold a minority share earlier this season. That just highlights the pulling power that Wrexham have , the media interest in them and business acumen of Ryan Reynolds and partner(s).
It feels like Wrexham have a big game this weekend, as although they are "only" away to Sheffield Wednesday who are League 1 bound and a financial mess and the visitors should win with a degree of comfort, it has more value, as it is the final game played before the January transfer window slams shut and Wrexham are prepared to splash the cash to get into the playoffs and maybe more. On Wednesday, as I type, they have been hinting at up to three big money signings and that will encourage all involved to get these deals done if they move onto 47 points.
A further sign of how far the club have come in a handful of years is that they will have as many supporters at Hillsborough this weekend ( 4-5 hour round trip) as their average home attendance in 2019-20 (3,705).
Good luck!
QPR- Wrexham
Rangers and the Red Dragons will also be eyeing up one of those top 6 places. I guess most of you know where I am going with this, as Wrexham landed back to back away wins for us at Blackburn and Derby to start the New Year and County (see above) have franked the form line subsequently. Ahead of those wins I wrote ......
I previewed Rovers-Wrexham on NYD ......
I spoke about Wrexham starting to look like their old devil may care selves on Monday, with both teams scoring in 6 of their last 7 and there have been 18 goals total in the four most recent. They have scored 7 in winning the last two of those, back to back home wins against two strong teams and now need to start taking that offensive threat with them on the road.
Hollywood United ( Wrexham) are media darlings and they have led a charmed and relentlessly successful few years with three successive promotions .....

That was always likely to catch up with them at some stage and it has taken quite a while for them to get going after starting this season slowly. The Championship is tough and at this level the Red Dragons do not have such a financial edge. However, they did try to assert it and spent a net £35m which is a lot in the second tier nowadays and largely went for players with plenty of Championship experience, but they took a while to gel. They are only four points off the playoff spots with plenty of games left to play and they got further major investment into the club recently and their ambitions know no bounds. A win today will leave them well placed and surely they will look to further strengthen in this window.
Rovers are tough to beat, but have won just 2 of 11 home games and we have been here before with them and Ewood Park is not the toughest of venues to play at and they have had awful second half of the season runs multiple times in the past, winning 1 of 11 home games after Christmas in 2023/24 for example. They have a depleted squad, which is running on empty without their top scorer and several offensive back ups and are already the third lowest scorers in the division. The odds today do not make a lot of sense.
The North Wales side won 2-0 and were comfortable victors, leading by two goals inside 40 minutes and not allowing Rovers a BC and only one attempt on target. That might say just as much about Rovers, but I am going to stick with both lines of thinking, that being that the Red Dragons are in their best form of the season and seem to have more energy and confidence right now than almost any other Championship side.
I have not backed Wrexham subsequently and just as well as those played out ....
| 09-Jan-2026 | FAC (r3) | Wrexham | 3-3 | Nottingham Forest |
| 17-Jan-2026 | Ch (27) | Wrexham | 1-2 | Norwich City |
| 20-Jan-2026 | Ch (28) | Wrexham | 1-1 | Leicester City |
They were the better team in all three games, led EPL side Forest 3-1 (but did win on penalties) and conceded in the 91st minute to Leicester. They might enjoy being back on the road today and we and they can land the hat-trick.
I will be honest and say that QPR are the one (only) team I do not like, sorry, it has been ingrained in me since I was a small boy! I do back them occasionally and, as that is almost always under protest, we usually do OK with those, but normally I try to avoid their games completely, but I thought I should mention it, I have tried to be objective and anyway, this is all about the visitors. Rangers do play an open style and concede a lot of goals at Loftus Road (not what I usually call it.....but I will stop now!) joint second most last season, joint 5th most in 23/24 and joint most in 22/23 and 1.31 per game this season. The visitors sold out all their tickets in double quick time and will be in for a "treat", with at least half of them able to see most of the pitch!
